Shirley Harp

Obituary of Shirley Harp

On Thursday, September 24, Shirley Harp, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 85. Born January 13, 1935 to Nellie Vance and Garnett Brannock, Shirley Brannock graduated from Lafayette High School on May 29, 1953. On March 11, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Harp, who preceded her in death. They raised two children, Bev and Steven Harp, and were grandparents to Jamee, Austin, and Dalton. She is survived in death by not only her children and grandchildren, but also three great-grandchildren, whom she adored. After being a home-maker for most of her life, in 1986, Shirley took on the position of property manager of Central Christian Church Apartments in Lexington, KY. She was held in high regard by her tenants for being a strong, powerful, resilient woman for 17 years before a decline in her medical condition forced her resignation. Shirley had a passion for life unmatched by anyone. Her quick wit and sense of humor, enthusiasm for holidays, her obsession with cheetah print, her convertible sports car, her tight, white jeans and sparkly gold tops, her enormous fur jackets, her demand to be called Meemee because she “wasn’t a granny” will be foremost in her family’s mind as they mourn her absence in their lives; remembering and celebrating not only her life, but the force of life she was. No services are planned.
